We made a trip from Louisville to Graber's to see if they might have a corner console for our TV set. Although they did not have what we wanted on site, our salesperson offered to have one made in a short timeframe. We chose the piece from a catalogue picture and were able to pick the type of wood we wanted and the stain color, plus get delivery to Louisville. The salesperson, Martin, was so friendly, helpful, and patient! We received the delivery in a prompt manner, and it is more beautiful than I had hoped! It is solid wood and a real showpiece! We love it and will definitely do business with Graber's again!

I had shopped around for a platform bed and a new table and chairs when I happened upon Graber's Handcrafted Furniture website. When I visited their shop Martin was wonderful in helping me finalize exactly what I wanted. The bed, table and chairs are absolutely beautiful. They are solid wood with excellent workmanship. The gentleman that made my table signed the underside of the table which I was thrilled with. When Graber's delivered my furniture they finished the final assembly, they are excellent. Outstanding quality made in the USA!

Compare the bed types

Standard Bed, Storage Bed, Daybed, or Wall bed?

The bed is usually the piece that sets the tone for the whole bedroom. Some bed styles are chosen mainly for their look, while others help solve practical needs like storage, flexibility, or making the most of a smaller room. Comparing the main bed types side by side can make it easier to choose a piece that feels right both visually and functionally.

Standard Beds

Standard beds are often the go-to choice for shoppers who want a timeless bedroom layout. They give the room a grounded focal point without adding too much visual complexity, which makes them easy to pair with dressers, night stands, mirrors, and other bedroom pieces. They are a strong fit for anyone who wants classic style and long-term versatility.

Storage Beds

Storage beds are ideal when you want your furniture to work harder for the room. They help bring hidden storage into the bed itself, which can be especially useful for blankets, seasonal bedding, or clothing. This style is a smart option for smaller bedrooms, guest rooms, or homes where every bit of storage matters.

Daybeds

Daybeds offer more flexibility than a traditional bed setup. They can work well in guest spaces, multi-use rooms, or bedrooms where seating and sleeping need to come together. They often feel a little lighter and more casual than a full bed setup, making them a useful choice for spaces that need to stay adaptable.

Wallbeds

Wallbeds are one of the most practical solutions for rooms that need to serve more than one purpose. They help free up floor space when the bed is not in use, which makes them especially helpful in offices, guest rooms, and smaller homes. For shoppers who need sleeping space without giving up the whole room, wallbeds can be a very smart answer.

Smart Bedroom Storage That Still Feels Beautiful

Storage is one of the biggest reasons a bedroom feels either calm or crowded. The right mix of case pieces can help organize clothing, linens, bedside essentials, and everyday overflow while still keeping the room warm and inviting. This section gives you a good place to showcase how the main storage categories work together.

Dressers

Dressers help anchor the room with broad, practical storage. They are especially useful when you want generous drawer space and a surface for lamps, décor, or a matching mirror.

Night Stands

Night stands bring everyday function right where you need it. They help keep bedside essentials close at hand while also adding symmetry and balance around the bed.

Wardrobes & Armoires

These taller storage pieces are ideal when you need to add clothing storage without spreading farther across the room. They can be especially helpful in bedrooms with limited closet space.

Chests

Chests are a smart choice when you want strong vertical storage. They help you gain drawer space while using less wall width than larger case pieces.

Bedroom Chest Options

Compare Popular Bedroom Chest Styles

A chest can do a lot more than simply add drawers. Depending on the style, it can help store folded clothing, blankets, accessories, or everyday items that need a place without making the room feel overloaded. This section gives you a chance to explain the differences clearly so shoppers can better understand which chest style fits the way they live.

Blanket Chests

Blanket chests are ideal for storing extra bedding, quilts, pillows, or seasonal linens in a neat and attractive way. They often work especially well at the foot of the bed or along an open wall where you want useful storage without the look of a tall case piece.

Chest of Drawers

A chest of drawers is one of the most practical storage pieces for a bedroom. It gives you strong vertical drawer storage without taking up as much width as a dresser, making it a smart fit for many room sizes.

Gentleman’s Chest

A gentleman’s chest blends drawer storage with additional cabinet-style storage, which gives it a little more flexibility than a standard chest. It is a great option for shoppers who want room for folded clothing along with bulkier items or pieces that do not fit as neatly into drawers.

Lingerie Chest

Lingerie chests are tall, narrow, and especially useful for smaller items that benefit from more divided storage. They work well for accessories, undergarments, and other items you want to organize more precisely without taking up much floor space.

Mule Chests

Mule chests combine some of the strengths of a dresser and a chest into one piece. They usually offer a mix of drawers and cabinet-style storage, which makes them a versatile choice for bedrooms where flexible storage matters more than a simple drawer-only layout.

Bedroom Details That Help the Room Feel Complete

A finished bedroom usually needs more than the main furniture pieces alone. Mirrors add light and help the room feel more open. Jewelry storage brings organization to everyday routines. Occasional pieces like seating or quilt racks add both usefulness and character. This section is a good place to show how those smaller pieces help the whole room come together.

Mirrors

Mirrors help a bedroom feel brighter, lighter, and more open. Whether mounted to the wall or used as a floor mirror, they can also reinforce the style of the surrounding furniture.

Jewelry Storage

Jewelry storage pieces help keep small personal items protected, organized, and easier to access. They also make thoughtful accent pieces in bedrooms where daily routines matter.

Occasional Seating

A small bench or bedroom seating piece can make the room feel more inviting while also giving you a practical place to sit, set items down, or soften an empty corner.

Make Your Bedroom Furniture Feel More Personal

Bedroom furniture often works best when it reflects the room it is going into. Some homes need a bed with built-in storage. Others need a taller chest instead of a wider dresser, or a night stand size that fits a tighter wall space. That is where custom bedroom furniture becomes especially valuable.

Instead of trying to make standard pieces fit every room the same way, customization gives you more control over the details. You can choose the wood species, finish color, dimensions, storage features, and other design elements that help the furniture feel more natural in your home.

  • Bed size and headboard scale
  • Storage bed options
  • Dresser and chest dimensions
  • Night stand widths for tighter spaces
  • Mirror pairing and bedroom set coordination
  • Wood species selection
  • Finish and stain customization
  • Hardware and detail choices
  • Wardrobe or armoire storage configuration
  • Jewelry storage and accent piece matching

Compare Popular Bedroom Storage Options

Bedroom storage works best when each piece has a clear job. Some pieces are ideal for folded clothing, some help with bedside essentials, and others solve closet limitations or make use of tighter wall space. This comparison chart gives shoppers a practical way to understand how the main bedroom storage pieces differ before they start narrowing down styles.

Piece Type Best For Storage Style Takes Up Works Best In Why People Choose It
Night Stand Bedside essentials Small drawer storage Minimal floor space Any bedroom Keeps daily items close and adds balance beside the bed
Dresser Everyday clothing storage Wide drawer storage More wall width Primary bedrooms Offers generous storage and a strong surface for décor or a mirror
Chest of Drawers Vertical clothing storage Tall drawer storage Less wall width Smaller or narrower rooms Adds strong storage without spreading across the room
Gentleman’s Chest / Mule Chest Mixed clothing and flexible storage Drawers plus cabinet-style storage Moderate footprint Bedrooms needing versatility Gives you more flexibility than drawers alone
Wardrobe / Armoire Extra hanging or concealed storage Tall cabinet storage Vertical footprint Rooms with limited closet space Adds substantial storage without built-in closet changes
Blanket Chest Linens, pillows, or seasonal storage Lift-top storage Low, broad footprint At the foot of the bed or open walls Keeps bulky bedroom items tucked away neatly

Frequently Asked Questions

What to Know Before Choosing Bedroom Furniture

What bedroom furniture pieces do I need to start with first?

Most shoppers begin with the bed, then build around it with the storage pieces that matter most for their room. That often means adding a dresser, night stands, or a chest depending on layout, closet space, and daily storage needs.

How do I choose between a dresser and a chest of drawers?

A dresser is usually better when you want broader drawer storage and a surface for a mirror or décor. A chest of drawers is often the better choice when you need more vertical storage without using as much wall width.

When does a storage bed make the most sense?

Storage beds are especially helpful in bedrooms where closet space is limited or where you want to reduce the need for extra storage pieces. They can be a smart way to keep bedding, clothing, or seasonal items tucked out of sight.

What is the difference between an armoire and a wardrobe?

Both are taller bedroom storage pieces, but the exact layout can vary by design. In general, they are chosen when shoppers want extra enclosed storage, especially in rooms that need more than standard drawer pieces can provide.

Can bedroom furniture be customized?

Yes, and that is one of the biggest advantages of shopping handcrafted furniture. Depending on the piece, custom options may include wood species, finish, dimensions, storage configuration, and other details that help the furniture fit your room better.

How do I make sure my bedroom furniture feels coordinated without looking too matched?

A good starting point is to keep the wood tone and overall style consistent, then vary the room through mirrors, seating, hardware, textiles, and accent pieces. That helps the room feel connected without feeling overly uniform.
